There are many reasons to differentiate between your left and right ski. In the not so distant past binding manufacturers built their bindings in such a way that the mountings were different and the mounting jigs were made to accomodate these variances. Most racers that I know of ski with their skiis tuned distinctly different. One usually dulls the outside edges back from the tip about 8-10 inches, while the inside edges are dulled back (beveled) 2-4 inches. I have known of aspiring young racers who with the advent of symetric bindings/boots, began tuning their skiis with one set of edges less sharp than the other. When they arrived at the race with their only pair of skiis, they would place the sharp edges on the inside if the course was hard, or use the dulled edges on the inside on softer snow. -- Boyd Hays 213/323-8170 x.2058 cadovax!boyd
