I have found that yet another team sport is excellent for developing
muscles, endurance, and general good mobility.  It's soccer!  We used
to play soccer in the fall as part of our training 'camp' for ski teams
in school.  Our racing team is planning to do similar training just to
help folks get into better shape for the season.  There are some good 
drills which relate to racing, ie., dribble the ball with the feet and
weave around a set of cones.  You can set up teams and have a race.  The
important thing is to make sure it is fun for all.  That way it doesn't
feel like you are 'working' to get into shape.  Good luck and have fun!!
