My thanks to those responding to the request for Western NY Ski Areas.
Below are the ones mentioned by our netters. I also found out that NY state
has a skiing guide; to obtain one or get information, write/call:
Division of Tourism
New York State Department of Commerce
One Commerce Plaza
Albany, NY 12245
(518) 474-4116
Thanks again, folks! Here's the list.
-----
Greek Peak (S. of Syracuse, near Cordtland) 900 ft vertical, rather popular
Bristol Mountain (45 minutes S. of Rochester) 1200 ft vertical, scenic but
not overly challenging. $20/day. Go B4 3pm (when school adjourns)
Swain (1 hr. S. of Rochester) 650 ft vertical, beginner-ish (wide open spaces)
far from where you're looking, but I'll try to be some help.
Snow Ridge (Turin, NY, S. of Watertown), 600 ft vertical, small but diverse
Shoemaker Mountain (Herkimer/Utica), 750 vertical, another small one
