[net.rec.ski] bindings: Delrin vs. Metal

Here we go again.

I'm still working on a solution to my problem (an inch missing from my
left leg and unable to flex the ankle forward) and after talking to lots
of people (thanks to those of you who sent me mail last season!), I've
decided to put a wedge lift between the ski and binding. So I am going to
buy a pair of beater skis and a good pair of bindings and experiment. Very
carefully.

Now the question is: what difference is there between Delrin and aluminum
bindings? I've looked at several brands and noted some differences ( Geze
uses a plastic adjustment screw, etc. ) Is there any difference in the
maintenance? Does silicone spray do anything weird to Delrin? Can/should
you use "white grease" on the heel piece. Since I'm the only one who will
use these, there will be very few adjustments being made, but I'm still
concerned about wear, strength, etc.. Any comments, ideas, suggestions?

Also:
Does anyone out there know to the "history" of the various brands? I've
come across several used ski/binding sets that have "old" bindings that
have model numbers I can't date. Some look in good shape but have designs
that I can't place. If there is any demand, I'd be glad to collate any
information and distribute it. Something like this:

Manufacturer:
Model:
Year introduced:
Year discontinued:
Superceded by:

So there it is. Any and all feedback is welcomed.
