[.....] Will someone in California please post a California Ski Report in the manner of Greg Woods's Colorado Ski Report? It would be greatly appreciated by those of us Washingtonians who will be travelling down to Calif to ski (esp the Lake Tahoe basin area). I just got back from Lake Tahoe, and the skiing was wonderful at Squaw Valley. No lines (guess everyone is waiting for January), 6 feet of snow: powder, packed powder, some crustiness. Not very many rocks: didn't hit any, but skied over a few. -- Ken Turkowski @ CIMLINC, Menlo Park, CA UUCP: {amd, decwrl, hplabs, seismo, spar}!turtlevax!ken ARPA: turtlevax!ken@DECWRL.DEC.COM

My own reports are spotty, observations rather than true measurments. This is partially because the type of skiing I used to do (snow hydrology) and the requests are more X-C oriented than downhill (which I still do). X-C requires a bit more information about the weather, waxing, iciness, and so forth. I don't have the time to collect data by phoning resorts since we cannot "justify" this on the basis of "weather" reporting.
