Review of Rush concert - Note: Long!

Rush came to the Capital Centre (Largo, MD) last night for
a one-night Washington area engagement. They did a pretty good
job of selling out the 15,000 seat C.C. - it was full before the
show started!

They started with 'Spirit of Radio', and proceeded to blow
thru one of the hottest sets I've seen in years. They used a
good mix of songs from their new album and older favorites. They
started promptly at 9, and played for 2 solid hours. Their light
show was very nice, adding a great deal to the mood of the show.
They make good use of lasers; after the opening songs, the words
'Good Evening' appeared on the screen behind them 'written' by
laser. They used laser designs on the screen, and beamed them
thruout the hall at different points of the show. Some highlights
of the show were 'Witch Hunt', 'Big Money' (I almost hate to admit
it), 'Closer to the Heart' (extended jam), and, the peak of the show:
for the encore they did 'Overture --> Temples of Syrinx' - perfectly!
The crowd went wild, and I must admit, I did too! From 'Temples'
they went into 'Mistic Rythms', and then into 'In the Mood' for the finale.

All in all, this show was one of the best I've seen (out of the
last 6 tours), following only '79 and '81 (Hemispheres and Moving
Pictures). The set was nice and tight, the band seemed to really
enjoy being there and playing for us, and there were no technical
glitches. Geddy really 'got down' on his bass a couple of times,
and Neil was incredible, as always. Let's not forget Alex, who has
still got the old magic after all these years - check him out, Isaac!
The light show was intricate, yet didn't distract you from the actual
music; rather enhanced it.

I think Rush is definately onto something with their latest
musical bent, and if you'd like to see them to see what they're
like, this is a good tour to see 'em on.
