Location: Aspen, CO Date:2/15 Air Temperature: 33 F ( was as low as -16F on 2/10) Wind Direction and Velocity: W up to 40 MPH Cloud cover: 100% Overall weather accessment: In coming Tropical storm Snow depth: 3-4 feet Elevation of measure (base): 11,800 Physical Snow Characteristics: varied, wet powder on some days, others blown away. Water content (if known): Backcountry avalanche hazard: high X-C Wax: Green stick to purple stick depending on day and if you went uphill Lift Lines wait (if a downhill resort): short to none. Ancillary Comments: Snowmass has exposed rocks lower runs and could use more snow. Same went for Highlands and Aspen proper. Snow everyday for six skiing days. Occasional sun. Typically 2 inches accumulated over night with the exception of 2/13 when 12 inches fell (wet powder), but nice skiing. Snow was even wetter when we left. Sorry, no helicopter this time, but I tried to get on the snowcat list. One member of the party braved the snowmobiles and skiied the Maroon Creek road. I skiied Little Nell the first evening on 3 pins. For those who absolutely have to know, on 2/14, I slipped and twisted an ankle on the icy stairway of the Condo the Ames Ski Club rented. Oh well, no skiing at Sierra Ski Ranch on Sunday or Monday. No snide comments please.
