[net.rec.ski] Utah Skiing

pam@cepu.UUCP (Pam McGarvey ) (03/06/86)

I just returned from 5 days (Feb 26 - March 2) skiing in the Salt Lake City
area.  Conditions were uniformly spring skiing -- icy until 10:30 or so;
great spring conditions until 2:30; slush from 2'ish on. The areas I skiied
were Brighton, Solitude, Alta, Snow Basin and Deer Valley. Solitude had
the worst conditions -- icy to the point where it appeared the slopes had not
been groomed in days and were down to sheet ice. Alta had the best -- runs
groomed to get the snow in the best skiing condition possible.
Snow Basin was the least crowded (saved this one for Saturday just to avoid
crowds) but the runs were knee-cracking until 11 and slush by 2.

Temperature in SLC was 65 and 45 at the mountains, no clouds, bright sun
and little wind.

Greetings,

I am planning on a trip to Salt Lake City and the skiing of the
areas around there. Of course I didn't save the listing describing the
areas. What we are interested in are the areas with really tough mogul
terrain, steeps be they chutes or bowls, and cornices. Off trail within
bounds routes that you might know of are also of interest. Any areas
that you know that have all (OH YEAH) or parts of the above I would be
interested in hearing of. Off trail terrain I would appreciate explicit
directions for finding it and not getting lost. Current conditions would
also be appreciated.
As for apres-skiing, where are the cheap, clean hot tubs ??
Restaurants that are gold mines for great food, reasonable prices, and
hospitality ?? What is all the brew-haha about alcohol and bars in Salt
Lake ?? Any places to stay away from at all times would also be
appreciated. Basically do you know any information that could turn a fine
vacation into an outrageous time. Please don't dawdle on the reply as I,
of course, am sending this out at the last minute. If people want to know
what I find out by e-mail and experience send e-mail and I will reply.

			Thanks in advance,
