[net.usoft] Object Oriented Extensible Languages for Unix

merg@bunker.UUCP (Jim Stephenson) (01/13/84)

Hi,
Does anybody know of any Object Oriented Extensible Languages
(OOEL) running under Unix? If so please tell me about them.

ps. Wasn't FPL (Functional Programing Language) something like an OOEL this?

In reference to object oriented language which run under UNIX,
I would like to suggest T, the statically-scoped Lisp written
at Yale (I could be shot for advertising for the enemy) by
Jonathan Rees and Norman Adams (and, perhaps, others). T is
(quite obviously) Yale's response to NIL (New Implementation of
Lisp) and is by far the nicest Lispish programming language I
have used -- in fact, I have completely given up using Franz
Lisp in favor of T. Some of the nice features include:

	1. Static and dynamic scoping of variables.
	2. Structures, arrays, bit-vectors, etc.
	3. Objects and object-oriented functions.
	4. A compiler (a new, improved release is expected soon).
	5. A SCHEME-like, regular syntax.

At Harvard, we are currently running it on Vaxen (under UNIX 4.1BSD)
and Apollos (under Aegis). We are awaiting versions which will run
under 4.2BSD and VMS. In order to receive more information, send mail
to T-Discussion@YALE (ARPA), yale-comix!rees (USENET), or
