I am in the process of looking for a good software control package. We are running 4.2 BSD on a VAX 750, and this is what I am up against. We have some work being done in-house using Intel 8086's, code written in C. The VAX is going to serve as the host for these 8086's, downloading the code when an update is to be performed, as there is no cross-compiler. We need something along these lines - (this is very preliminary). 1) Selective Access to the files. This is not really a problem, however I thought that I would include it for starters. 2) File Accounting. A log is kept as to who accessed which file when. 3) "Magic Buffer". All modifications made to a piece of software would be kept (stored semi-permanently) in this buffer. Upon completion fo the update, the package would perform compares on the old & new versions of the software, logging the differences into the "Documentation File". 4) Automatic Document Production. After all modifications are done to a module, the person doing the update would be forced to talk back to the VAX, informing it what changes were performed to what piece of software. This information could then be printed at will by the Software Admin. This is just a breif view of what I have in mind. Has anyone had any experience/heard of anything similar? If not, we are going to end up writing our own, and really do not have the 2-3 months to apply to this task. Any leads would be very appreciated....
