We at Oklahoma State University are implementing a number of our undergraduate classes using the C language. By embarking upon this course of action, the usual complaints about the inadequacy of compiler and run time messages are threatening to swamp us. We understand that there are a number of products that may be able to help us. These include compilers with better diagnostics than the basic C compiler as well as debuggers that are better for novice use than adb or sdb. Unfortunately, our information on specifics is lacking: i.e. supplier names, addresses, price, etc. Any information on any such products especially from anyone with experience with them would be greatly appreciated. Presently we are running C under UNIX(v. 7) on a PE 3230 and under EUNICE on a VAX 11/780. Presently, we are attempting to set up on-line instruction for the debugging tools we do possess. Word from anyone with knowledge of of or experience in similar undertakings would be especially welcome.
