[net.lang.c] Algol68, the solution to our problems.

jc@mit-athena.UUCP (John Chambers) (03/05/85)

Hey, when can I get ahold of a usable (or even good) Algol68 compiler.
I've been waiting 16 years already; it's about time that people stop
saying how great it is and make the compilers available.

I mean, I like C, sort of; it's a big improvement on Fortran and Pascal,
and probably also on Ada (which I may get to use in my old age); but
it does have a few minor problems here and there. C'mon, don't just
keep saying how good it is, let's see the compilers.

Is someone maybe writing a portable Algol68-to-C translator and a set
of run-time routines, all in the public domain?

Drool, drool, slobber, drool....

Soon. The Amsterdam Compiler Kit's port will be ready in a while and
we know that will be very versatile. Patience, great idea take time
to come to fruition.
