[net.games.video] Joysticks for Intellivision

will (11/07/82)

Can anyone tell me where or how to obtain stick-on 'mushrooms' for
the Intellivison disk? I know they exist...saw an ad for them once,
I think. If possible, anyone know where they're sold in San Diego?
				Thanx, Will D.

Last night in a record store, I noticed a new joystick made for the
atari type games. It was similar to a Gorf/Tron stick with the fire
button on the top. The price, I believe, was ~$20. Has anyone else
seen this, and have any comments on it?

If the Atari-type joy stick seen in the record store is a
black plastic pistol-grip type with a triangular joy stick/fire button
on the top, you'd be well advised to try it before you buy it.
I didn't, and I regret it. It's difficult to hold, control isn't
as positive as it is with Atari-made joy sticks, and the fire
button has a long travel, tends to change the position of whatever
is doing the firing on the screen, and often misfires. The shaft
of the joy stick is plastic and looks fragile, and with the way
some people lean into a joy stick, it probably won't last very long.
If these things don't bother you much, it's probably a fine buy.

I have seen and purchased the joysticks that you are reffering to.
They are called PointMasters and sell for 17$ at Sam Goody's. They offer
much better control then the original joysticks that come with the Atari.
However be forwarned they take some time in getting used to especially the
location of the fire button.
