[net.games.video] New Vectrex Peripherals

dad@eisx.UUCP (07/13/83)

The July issue of "Video Games" magazine has a four page article on the new
Vectrex peripherals which include:
	* A light pen
	* A keyboard
	* Color enhancer with 3D stereo
	* Report on new game titles.

The light pen will support line drawing software, music composition software,
and some games.

The keyboard will turn the Vectrex into a home computer. A stringy-floppy
(tape) storage system will be offered initially with a real floppy disk
system coming later. Initial home computer offerings will include a
WRITE YOUR OWN GAME package with primitives for animating and scaling
objects. LOGO will be introduced as well as some programs for education
and science. A printer is slated for 1984.

The color enhancer... "will bring true 3D (not perspective) graphics and
almost infinite range of colors to the system, eliminating the future
need for the color overlays as is the case now". Someone posted an article
on the net saying that this was a pair of goggles syncronized with the
display screen. The article goes on to say the enhancer will "retail for
less than $50 and plug into the side cartridge port with a new game port
being part of the expander... new color games for under $40".

New game titles listed include:

	* Bedlam - Like Tempest by turned inside out (your in the center,
		   objects come out from the sides toward you).

	* Spike - 1st talking game cartridge.

	* Web Wars - one or two player game.

	* Fortress of Narzod - one or two player game with 3 screens.

	* Spinball - a pinball game.

	* Soccer - one or two players.

	* Dark Towers - based on Milton Bradley game. Will include 50% more
			memory so game play will have a different style than
			current games.

	* Pole Position - Atari arcade driving game.

	* Star Castle - The arcade game.

	* Polar Rescue - Vectrex's own 3D submarine game.

	Are all these peripherals planned for the Vectrex system that
has "Mine Storm" built-in? I find that rather surprising, but at least
its a pleasant surprise.
