/***** whuxh:pr.presstp / mhwpd!prnews / 11:48 am Sep 16, 1983*/ AN ODD COUPLE OFFERS THE SMURFS BY PHONE, Newsweek, 9/19, p. 69. AT&T and Donkey Kong may sound like an unlikely team, but an agreement between the "venerable communications giant" and Coleco will soon make entertainment software available by telephone to 25 million owners of video games and home computers. AT&T and Coleco will develop a modem to connect the home equipment with a central data base. Unlike existing competitors' services, this one will work with any video game or home computer, and will allow someone in Pittsburgh to play someone in Seattle. Analysts expect AT&T to offer the service to customers nationwide over its own 900 long-distance number. /* ---------- */
