For those of you who have been eagerly awaiting the release of the ATARI 2600 Adapter for the ATARI 5200, you may have to wait a little longer... The 2600 adapter does not work with most 5200's that are in the field. If your 5200 has FOUR joystick ports, it has to be brought in to a service center for a free modification. This is probably only a minor problem compared to the major problem of PRICE! The new adapter sells for 60 to 70 dollars. You get NOTHING with it. No joysticks, no games. Nada. For about 60 dollars minus a 30 dollar rebate from ATARI (net cost about 30 dollars) you get the original 2600 plus two joysticks plus two paddle controls plus two games (COMBAT and PACMAN)! Why would anyone buy the new adapter? Wait for the price to come down... On my way to K-Mart to buy a 2600, Jim McParland allegra!mac
