Well, folks, I got 3 responses to my request for Vectrex reliability information. Two of them suggested that it would be hard to go wrong buying a backup machine, since it would probably cost at least that much to get one fixed if it broke, and you could probably always sell it for what you paid for it. The third response was about a machine with dead sound out of the box that was repaired by the buyer, and he's had no further problems, despite some creative use by his strange friends (stuffing peanut butter up the air vents!). My original assumption was that they were likely to fail frequently, so I was surprised by the absence of horror stories. Thanks to all those who responded.
