[net.games.video] GI AY3-8192 chip info

knudsen@ihnss.UUCP (04/27/84)

Unless I was mistaken, a few months ago The Rainbow (the major Coco rag)
had quite a long and detailed article on this sound chip, how to program it,
etc. I could find out the exact issue of The Rainbow if anyone cares.
Funny it should pop up in a 6809 magazine, since that's what the Vectrex uses.

Is that AY-3-8192 or AY-3-8912? If it's in a Vectrex it's over a year
old, and there's no AY-3-8192 in my 1982 General Instruments data book.
But there is an AY-3-8912 Programmable Sound Generator with the
following pinout:
		    __________
		   | \/ |
Analog channel C [| 1 28|] DA0
	  Test 1 [| 2 27|] DA1
	VCC (+5) [| 3 26|] DA2
Analog channel B [| 4 25|] DA3
Analog channel A [| 5 24|] DA4
       VSS (gnd) [| 6 23|] DA5
	    IOA7 [| 7 22|] DA6
	    IOA6 [| 8 21|] DA7
	    IOA5 [| 9 20|] BC1
	    IOA4 [|10 19|] BC2
	    IOA3 [|11 18|] BDIR
	    IOA2 [|12 17|] A8
	    IOA1 [|13 16|] RESET\
	    IOA0 [|14 15|] CLOCK
		   |__________|

Is this the same chip? Or is there a newer one?
I'd include a detailed description of the chip, but it's pretty long.
