[net.games.video] HOME COMPUTER VERSION OF Q*BERT

kreidler@hubie.DEC (12/06/84)

Rather than buy the cartridge, buy the Aug. 1984 (No. 21) issue of
ANALOG and type in the game Avalanche. It's very similar to Q*Bert,
and a lot of fun.

In general, each issue of ANALOG and Antic has at least one game
that's close in quality to the one's you'd pay $40 for. It takes
some patience to do all the typing and to chase down your typo/bugs,
but you can get a lot of do-it-yourself satisfaction from it too.

In regard to Richard Seltzer's suggestion to type games out of magazines:
Please note that that works for Home Computers only, not video game systems
such as the Atari 2600 and 5200, Odyssey2, Colecovision, etc. Also
keep in mind that not all type-in games work on just any computer. For
instance, Analog and Antic magazines are written for ATARI owners only.
For other systems, other magazines are available. But I agree that several
of the best games I have for my ATARI computer have came from these magazines
and spending gobs of money isn't really necessary.
