A new game called "I,ROBOT", just hit
the Toronto area. If you can find it,
go take a look at it--it's a taste of
the future. A zillion colours, high
resolution graphics, and REAL TIME
3-D GRAPHICS WITH SURFACE FILLING AND
HIDDEN SURFACE REMOVAL. It's basically
a simple game, and there isn't that
much movement (the processors are
probably wheezing), but it's so
natural it's extremely impressive when
you realize what's going on.

Not just hidden lines, it comes complete with "realistically" shaded polygon *solids* with hidden surfaces removed. Given the number of solids, the fact you can alter your view point and side to side motion, it must have quite a sophisticated processor system inside. The doodle mode is kind of fun as well. I haven't played I, Robot enough to say whether I like the game play or not. This seems to be the next step beyond stuff like Marble Madness and Crystal Caves. They have precomputed 3-D mazes I think. Are the initials that CC displays those of the game designers or the top N players? If the latter, that would mean computing *some* of the maze right before your eyes. -bob usenet: decwrl!dec-rhea!dec-vaxwrk!peterson arpa: peterson%vaxwrk.DEC@decwrl.ARPA arpa: @decwrl.ARPA:peterson@vaxwrk.DEC
