[net.games.video] Crystal Castles "Warps"

sgt@cord.UUCP (SG Trischetta) (12/10/85)

Does anyone out there know the conditions for the 4th "warp" on "Crystal
Castles"? I am addicted to both the arcade and home version. (I struggle
along using joysticks with a game born for a trackball!)

I don't think I'm the first to post the first three warp locations, but
it may be helpful to others who haven't gotten as far.

So, if you consider this data as a ***SPOILER*** , please hit that 'n' key
now!

Secret Warp #1
--------------

This is the easiest of the (known) warps. Simply position Bentley to the
rear corner of the playfield (behind the structure) and press the Jump button.

On the home (Atari 800) version, the warp is at the leftmost side of the
playfield.

The result of this "warp" is to advance you to the first screen on Level 3,
along with an appropriate score and extra lives.

Secret Warp #2
--------------

This is relatively hard on the arcade version, and quite difficult on the
home version, though the procedure is the same.

It is located on the first screen of Level 3, called "Hidden Ramp". To
activate the "warp", you must get the magic hat and make it to the bottom
of the hidden ramp (and jump) before the hat disappears. Timing is critical
here, and some players have been known to "waste" a turn trying it, since
the rewards (jump to level 5, score, lives) are worth it.

Secret Warp #3
--------------

This warp, while not THAT difficult, requires that you complete the first
two screens on level 5, since it is located on the third, called "Crossroads".
To "warp" to level 7, jump while at the left rear corner of the playfield
(the second highest elevation on the screen).

Since I usually make it intact to the last screen on level 8 (Berthilda's
Castle) before I lose most of my men, I'd like to get a fighting chance to
finish the "Impossible Staircase"!!

Thanks in advance for your help, and I apologize if this subject has
been beaten to death, prior to my joining the net.
