A while back, I asked those in the net.micro.apple community if the upgrade to Apple Pascal 1.2 was worthwhile. A great many asked me to pass on information that I received. The following is a summary of the responses to the question. Most of the information came from Dave Seaman (purdue!ags), so if I lie - flame him, not me :-). The Apple Pascal 1.2 supports the alternate bank of memory on the IIe. The advantages are as follows: 1) All p-code goes into the alternate bank. Main memory is used for program data and assembly routines. You can run much larger programs without resorting to segmentation. 2) You can edit large files (<60 blocks). 3) You can compile large programs without enabling swapping. 4) You can compile library routines w/o swapping. 5) Intrinsic units need not be placed in SYSTEM.LIBRARY. 6) Up to 64 segment numbers are available. Problems - Dealers say that the deadline for purchasing the upgrade has passed. So, if they are to be believed, you must purchase the entire package ($295 list). One might get around this by talking directly to Apple. That's all Frank Kramer ihnp4!wuphys!fek
