[net.lang.pascal] Looking for graphics package

HBX@PSUVM.BITNET (10/15/86)

I am looking to purchase a graphics library/package that has the following
characteristics. Any leads would be appreciated.

    1) interfaces to Microsoft Pascal, (and secondarily) FORTRAN under
         MS-DOS

    2) provides plots on CGA (even better hi-res mode of AT&T 6300 mono
display), along with hardcopy on IBM Graphics Printer or HP
         LaserJet

    3) allows the simultaneous plotting of multiple datasets

    4) provides labeling options, automatic scaling (with manual override
capability), and other miscellaneous user-oriented features.

Please reply directly to me. Thanks.

IBM markets a graphics library called
"IBM Personal Computer Plotting System Library".
This library is callable from the following languages

IBM Personal Computer Basic Compiler, Version 1.00 or later
Lattice C Compiler, Version 2.00 or later (I have had problems with 3.00)
IBM Personal Computer FORTRAN Compiler, Version 2.00 or later
      IBM Professional Fortran Compiler

The output from the library is device independent, with device drivers
being available for all of the devices you have indicated.

I am not positive about this, but the package may actually have been written
by GSS (I forget what the initials stand for).

You should check out 'MetaWindows' from MetaGraphics. It's fairly cheap
($75 for the Turbo Pascal version, something like $125 for the Microsoft
compiler version), fast and painless to use. It was reviewed as product
of the month in July '85 PC Tech magazine.

There were initially a lot of bugs which have been mostly killed off. The
one remaining annoyance is that monochrome EGA support still doesn't work
right. This was supposed to have been fixed for certain by a month ago, but
the usual timetable applies (Real Soon Now).
