From: atfab::wyman From: decwrl!rhea!atfab!wyman The recent discussions concerning path-optimization have been a bit disturbing since I feel such attempts at optimization could result in some very nasty problems due to duplication in the node name space. Builders and users of path-optimizers should be aware that no optimization of any path which is on the "FAR" side of the node pair "!decwrl!rhea" should be attempted. Any node reached via that node pair is part of the Digital Enet. This would, of course, not be so much of a concern if it were'nt for the fact that there are a number of node names on the DEC-Enet which are duplicates of those on the USENET. The following is a list of such duplicates compiled by Mark Hornton: apollo cadvax caesar comet decwrl deimos dice druid duke eagle elsie felix gamma gummo harpo ist mordor moria opus orc orion parsec rabbit rocky2 solar spanky taurus turing varian vaxine vortex zeppo zeus Please be careful when doing path optimizations! If nothing else, be wary of any path which includes the "!decwrl!rhea" node pair!! bob wyman (DEC-Enet) ATFAB::WYMAN (UUCP) {decvax, ucbvax, allegra}!decwrl!rhea!atfab!wyman (ARPA) decwrl!rhea!atfab!wyman@Berkeley.ARPA decwrl!rhea!atfab!wyman@SU-Shasta
