The British National Computing Centre (NCC) recently completed a study of Electronic Mailbox Systems. The study's recommendations are now being published to as wide an audience as possible in the belief that the issues raised are of crucial importance to the development and use of this communication medium. The recommendations suggest that organisations need to implement mailbox systems to remain competitive; advise that a mailbox structures research program be initiated; proposes demonstrator projects to test ECMA, CCITT and ISO mailbox-related standards; encourages suppliers to provide a structuring capability in their products; and calls for the development of a programming language specifically for mailbox applications. You can see the full text of these recommendations by mailing me a request for them.
