Sun would like to would like to interface one of our machines to a Telex service (eg WU, FTC, etc.) and I would like to talk to anyone who has tried this. I am interested in solving the problem for a direct-connect (interactive) telex circuit, not for the various store-and-forward telex offerings about the place (eg. WU's Easylink service). Unix can do the store-and-forwarding, so what I am really looking for is the ability to directly control the dialling, and to be able to read back the status of the call as I go. In fact, what I would like to do resembles what UUCP does, in some ways. However, direct connection implies a leased 80 Volt Telegraph circuit and operation with asynchronous 5-bit framing at 60 baud. Therefore, level shifting and character code conversion is required. Perhaps someone knows of an available teletype-style device that handles the level conversion, and offers an ASCII RS232 port option for host attach. Alternatively, has anyone worked out all the necessary software to do this? Tony West Sun Microsystems Inc. {decvax|ucbvax}!sun!west
