If I send uucp mail which does not get delivered, should I be receiving some sort of "error messages" or feedback to tell me this? I can receive mail from the uucp community with no problem; when I reply to it, it seems to be transmitted OK. I get no problem reports from mailers or other feedback, but I also get no response from the addressees. As far as I can tell, it goes into a formless grey sink somewhere and vanishes. I have recently taken to adding postscripts to my messages which reply to uucp mail, requesting the addressee acknowledge receipt by dropping a brief note in return. I have never received any such acknowledgement, so I strongly suspect that the mail is not getting delivered. Let me describe what my mail situation is; it is admittedly unusual. My main account is on a MILNET host, "wmartin@almsa-1". I have uucp access through brl, and have the uucp address of "seismo!brl-bmd!wmartin". Mail delivered to that account is automatically forwarded over the MILNET to me at my wmartin@almsa-1 address, which is also a UNIX machine. I read this mail with msg, which is a user-interface that comes with the mmdf package. I can reply to messages from uucp senders; the route is from almsa-1 to brl or to seismo, via the MILNET/ARPANET, and thence into uucp-land. Perhaps there are gateway authorization problems causing the mail to get rejected, but I never see any reject notices. Anybody know reasons for mail to get eaten along these paths? Will Martin
