[net.mail] Usenix UUCP Project progress report

ksh@cbosgd.UUCP (Karen Summers-Horton) (01/09/85)

This is the progress report for the UUCP Project funded by the
Usenix Association. This report covers the month of December.

The main thrust of the last month has been preparing the UUCP map
for distribution on Usenet. All of the regional coordinators have
worked very hard for the last month converting the data to our new
format, and getting everything caught up to begin posting the map on
the night of January 8, and completing on the night of January 9.
The things that were learned from the last posting of the map have
proven very valuable in helping this one proceed much more smoothly.

We have also been working on setting up a 'network' of machines
across the country that have volunteered to keep a current copy
of the UUCP map on their machines, and make it available to the
UUCP community. This network is still in the testing stage, and
we are purposely waiting until after the complete posting of the
map to Usenet before announcing details. The announcement of
details will appear in the net.mail newsgroup in late January.

We have prepared a draft copy of our administrative requirements
for subdomains, and posted it to net.mail. A draft document
specifying the standard format for mail interchange is nearly ready
to be posted for comment.

A few of our people are preparing to give progress reports on the
project at the Usenix conference in Dallas. Apparently, the
scheduled time for the UUCP Project's presentation has changed from
what was previously announced, so I suggest that those of you who
are planning to attend our session double-check the time at the
conference.
