Subject: Query about MM like mailers

I have received the following responses to my query about
MM like mailers. I hope this information will be useful to others.

The mail system MH is somewhat like MM, runs under 4.2, and beats
anything else I've ever seen, including MM. I have the latest
distribution on oddjob and will be applying the final updates in
the next few days. MH is public domain and has its own arpanet
mailing lists devoted to discussion and improvements.

I have a TOPS-20 COMND JSYS implementation for UNIX (it's documented
too!), that runs on 4.xbsd, V7M11, and probably lots of other systems
with few or no mods. Being an ex-(TOPS20-hacker), I also have an MM-style
user-friendly mail program built atop the COMND implementation.

My management is a little, ah shall we say, concerned about software
leaving the laboratory without explicit permission, so I can't
volunteer anything without qualification. However, if you're
really interested in a copy, it's possible that something can be
arranged.

I have been implementing a portable TOPS-20 runtime system for some time now.
About 1 yr ago I wrote MM for this runtime system. It currently runs on VAXen
with either VAX/VMS or 4.2BSD UNIX. It also runs on Sun workstations and
Pyramid systems. SRI is just about to make the beta test release -- there
have been no firm marketing plans made yet.

At Yale a highly souped-up version of MM/MS for the Dec20 evolved called
OZ. When Yale started using unix machines and apollos, a version called
AZ (Apollo OZ) was created which runs on unix (vax) & apollos, by Ben
Cutler. I don't know if it is being distributed or not, contact him for
more information at Cutler@Yale (arpa) or ...!decvax!yale!cutler (uucp).
