[net.mail] Rooted domain addresses and more than one name for sites

pwd@pid.UUCP (Philip W. Dalrymple) (09/05/85)

***

In the talk on domain mail addersses one thing that semes missing
from the systems that have been proposed (at least I think it should
be present) is some way of "rooting" the address. In other words
there is no way to tell that the mail program has receved a complete
address or one in which some of the domains have been left off.

I think that there are two ways to take care of this problem

First each system should be resposable for sending out from
itself only addresses that are complete.

Second the addition of a rooting mark should be added like this

pwd@pid.pid.ga.uucp <--- as we do it now (more or less)

pwd@pid.pid.ga.uucp. <--- the last '.' says that this is a complete address.

Another point that any domain mailer needs to conseder is that a number
of sites will have a number of names under the domain system. (I think that
gatech now has three or four).
