I recall reading a posting, that I am next to positive was on net.mail, that contained a paragraph which mentioned in passing that the ARPA host MIT-MC, which for a decade had been the net-wide archive location and mail distribution machine for many of the ARPA mailing lists, will soon vanish from our ken. Specifically, that it was no longer under maintenance, so the next major hardware failure will result in it dying. I tried to find this posting but cannot. It either was not on net.mail, or has already been expired at this machine. If anyone recognizes this, or if a reader of this posting has "official" information or knowledge of the truth regarding host MIT-MC, could they please forward a copy of that posting, or send me email with info about this situation? I want to spread this word around, especially to Rich Zellich, who maintains the "List-of-Lists" directory of mailing lists. (Since many of those lists have their archives on MIT-MC, they should be looking *now* for new archive locations that allow anonymous FTP access.) Thanks much! I have received info that confirms the rumor I had read about host MIT-MC (on the ARPANET) being liable to vanish abruptly when they have hardware troubles in the near future. I have posted data about that situation to a number of ARPA mailing lists and bulletin boards. Will
