[net.mail] RFC 822 mailer for Burroughs systems

taylor@hplabsc.UUCP (Dave Taylor) (04/21/86)

If you're interested in a public domain mailer that speaks
RFC-822, deals with path routing, domain routing and so on in an
intelligent fashion, uses /bin/rmail or sendmail (according to what's
available) to route mail outbound and such, I suggest you check into
the Msg mailer, source to which has been posted already to mod.sources

For possible commercial uses (ie using this as a basis for a commercial
product) I would like to hear about it beforehand...

A related question... We have a variety of machines on campus
and need mailers for them.. Our IBM and Unix machines'll be nicely
covered with MMDF and Crosswell's mailer but we have an hp3000,
3 primes, a Data General (dunno what kind), a variety of Wangs,
Vms Vaxen (as opposed to us enlightened Unix Vaxen people) and
probably many more. (Might even want to have mailers running
ON people's micros...)

I'll take ANY info ANYBODY has on ANY rfc-822 mailer for ANY machine,
and even provide a summary if y'all want. Oh yeah, and once we've
got mailer x, how does it communicate? We're currently using a mix
of RSCS (and UREP) and UUCP for mail transfers. (Oh yeah, in one
case I'm running SMTP over an ethernet also...)

	Thanks in Advance,
