[Space is what I need -- it's what I feed on] What kind of STUPID JERK compiles such useless, boring trivia as the playing times of 7" singles! Or song titles that do not appear in the song! Geez, you'd have to have had a lobotomy to be interested in such dreck! Song tiles that don't appear in the song aren't even unusual! I can think of dozens of songs like this off the top of my head without even looking at my albums. If I looked at my albums I'm sure I'd find hundreds. There are probably thousands and thousands of songs that fit your description. Here are some that I can think of off the top of my head: Kate Bush ("The Dreaming"): "The Dreaming", "Night of the Swallow" ("The Kick Inside"): "Saxaphone Song" Roy Harper ("What Ever Happened to Jugula?"): "Bad Speech", "Frozen Moment", "Advertisement (Another Intentional Irrelevant Suicide)", Peter Gabriel: "Family Snapshot", "Wallflower" Pink Floyd ("Animals"): "Dogs", "Sheep", "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" ("The Wall"): "In the Flesh?", "In the Flesh", "The Happiest Days of Our Lives", "Young Lust", "The Trial" ("Dark Side of the Moon"): "Brain Damage" I could go on for pages and pages (but I won't)! What planet are you guys from? Here's a survey I want to do. :-) Not many song titles begin with the word "The". Does anyone on the net know of any songs titles that begin with this word? Please do NOT post your responses -- send them to ihlpg!jcjeff. Since he seems to be interested in such drivel, I'm sure he will compile a summary and post it. I mean, only a real JERK would call somebody else a jerk because he has different interests. I happened to think that titles that do not appear in songs is of interest. As a songwriter, I have been frustrated by publishers who refuse songs because the title doesn't appear in the song. I think it would be quite interesting to see how many hit songs have violated this rule. Finally, the examples you cited are NOT what was requested. The question was what HIT songs don't have the title in the song. -- "One man gathers what another man spills" Seth Jackson dec-curium!jackson

But I might as well act as a jerk -- after all I've already been decreed publicly a "stupid" "jerk" and "idiot" by Richard Jeffreys (the person conducting these inane, useless, boring, trivia surveys) for being interested in two-way messages! > Finally, the examples you cited are NOT what was requested. The > question was what HIT songs don't have the title in the song. Well, I'll be a jerk some more and suggest you learn how to read. Here's the pertinent section from jcjeff's silly request: > 2) Must have been from either a) a top fifty single (US or UK). > or b) a best selling album (US or UK). The meaning of "best selling" album is not necessarily clear, but all of the songs I listed are certainly from albums that at one time were in the Top 50 selling albums in either the US or UK. (Perhaps the Roy Harper album wasn't, but I suspect it was, as people tell me that Roy Harper is quite popular these days in England.) > [Richard Jeffreys] I like trivia of all sorts, but music trivia > happens to be my favourite. Well, I hope you get better! > [Richard Jeffreys] I don't see why Doug Alan thinks that one would > need to have a lobotomy to be interested in trivia. Considering that there's a whole world of art and science and philosophy to experience, it seems like an incredible waste of time. But what do I know? I'm just a "stupid" "jerk" and "idiot" who finds things like two-way messages interesting. > [Richard Jeffreys] If this is the case, there must be an awful amount > of people queuing up for their lobotomy, before they go to the store > to purchase "Trivial Pursuit". You won't get any argument from me about that. > The original posting for the poll requested twice that the replies should be > sent to a path other than the path that posted the article. In a brief > followup article, people were asked NOT to send replies to the net. You didn't say "pretty please", though. > After pointing out how stupid doing a particular poll is, Doug Alan then > contributes to it! It makes me wonder... My point was that since I could think of dozens of songs that off of the top of head that satisfied the request, it couldn't be a very interesting survey. It's usually considered good style to support an argument with examples, so I did. > a) When did Doug Alan have his lobotomy ? Never for Ever. > b) Does he know which planet he is on ? I'm living in my own private Idaho! > 2. He suggests that he would like to conduct a poll himself, but he then > asks people not to post the replies to the net, but for the replies to be > sent to me, because he seems SURE that I would be interested enough to > compile a list of them. I am not. Awwww! Come on! A list of all song titles that begin with the word "The" would be at least as interesting as the playing times of 7" singles over 4 mintues long! Pretty please! And you said you like trivia! Foo! You're just a charlatan! > 3. I seem to think that Doug Alan's actions are a prime case of stupidity, > and more typical of the actions of a jerk, than the actions of many people > who post articles genuinely looking for information and/or trivia. Sorry, I can't help it! All this listening to albums backwards has warped my mind! But at least I know what has caused my problems.
