as I am "crusading" to advance the state of the art of mailer-software on local machines, I am looking for what is available (or will be soon) for my "home-base" machine, a DEC-20 running TOS-20 Version 6.3 (?). and I quote one of our hard-working gurus ... <quote> We SHOULD have a name/domain server. There is no stable software yet available for DEC-20s however. Now, if you hear of the availability of a server... pass it on! <end of quote> maybe someone can post a message listing what is the "state affairs" in domain server software, in general ....

TOPS-20 has long had a domain name server (SRI-NIC is a TOPS-20 machine, which might kind of suggest that). It has never had a domain name resolver (client programming end): though such has been promised for a year or more, no TOPS-20 types have yet produced a date or any software. -- John Quarterman, UUCP: {gatech,harvard,ihnp4,pyramid,seismo}!ut-sally!im4u!jsq ARPA Internet and CSNET: jsq@im4u.UTEXAS.EDU, jsq@sally.UTEXAS.EDU
