[net.news.config] update on site packet

chuqui@cae780.UUCP (12/09/83)

I have some up to date information for those people interested in the site
packet (whoever they might be). As of this time, packet is no longer
receiving any news feed. They are receiving mail through amd70, but because
of internal decisions, they are not able to send mail through amd70 to
anybody (anybody for write only networking?). They do have a two way uucp
link for mail through a new jersey site called auragen, but I don't believe
that it is hooked up to the net in any way... Since I am no longer
associated with packet in any way, shape, or form, I can't explain this
behavior. I can just be glad I'm not stuck in it....

i talked to the (former) system manager at packet and it appears to
be an administrative problem. in other words: those who are not
members of their programming staff have taken it upon themselves
to keep the system 'secure'... whatever that means.
it seems a shame that management gets in the way of information
exchange so often.

Packet doesn't seem to be talking to amd70 anymore. Please do not try to
route to packet through amd70 as it will be returned.

Needless to say, it's been a real joy dealing with packet and I'm glad
I don't have to now.
