I'd like to emphasize that the policy of the UUCP project (in regards to the mapping and registry databases) is that UUCP sitenames must be unique in the first 6 characters. They are free to be LONGER than 6 chars, so long as uniqueness in the first 6 is maintained. The limitation of 6 instead of 7 characters has been caused by System V releases which (unwisely) decided to truncate at 6 characters. While we'll be watching this situation over time and will change the policy if/when it seems practical, we're pretty much stuck with 6 for now. While we'll happily change psuvax's name to "psuvax1", we will be unable to register any of "psuvax2", "psuvax3", etc. in either the mapping or registry databases, and those names will be "un-sites" (sort of like an "un-person" I guess) as far as the databases are concerned. It is strongly recommended that sites choose names that are unique in the first 6 characters! --Lauren--
