[net.news.config] gatech connections

mark@gatech.CSNET (Mark Johnson) (06/13/85)

Since "twg" is dead until further notice, and since we've changed
a number of connections lately, here's an updated version of
the info for "gatech":

#
# Any of the "DEMAND" connections are long distance charges and
# we only call once an hour IF we have something to transfer.
#
# First, our connections on campus. GTNET refers to Ethernet based
# connections, or other high-speed direct links.

GTNET = {gatech, gt-cirrus, gitpyr, gt-nimbus, gt-stratus}!(LOCAL)

gatech	GTNET, gtss(DIRECT), gt-cmmsr(DEDICATED+15), gt-fido(DEDICATED)

# Next, our main outside contacts. These four sites
# appear to take about 80% of our traffic, and all provide
# excellent connections. Akgua has an extra bonus because
# it's local and we get all our news through them.

gatech	akgua(DIRECT/2), hplabs(DEMAND+2*HIGH), ihnp4(DEMAND+2*HIGH),
	seismo(DEMAND+2*HIGH)

# Next, our other contacts in Georgia (mostly Atlanta).
# MSDC polls us hourly; due to security reasons, no one calls them.
# ga-ast and sunatl are off-the-air indefinitely.

gatech	dcc1(DIRECT), dcc2(DIRECT), emory(DIRECT), fba(DIRECT),
	ga-ast(DEAD), gacsr(DIRECT), ganehd(DIRECT), itm(DIRECT),
	galbp(DIRECT), medstar(DIRECT), msdc(HOURLY), pid(DIRECT),
	sb1(DIRECT), sb6(DIRECT), sunatl(DEAD), sysd(DIRECT),
	vctvax(DIRECT)

# Now, some of our other long-distance connections.
# "ulysses" is a backbone site and all the associated sites use
# the same data switch, so we got them "for free". Unfortunately,
# our dialer/modem has had a lot of difficulty making itself
# known to their dataswitch.

gatech	ulysses(DEMAND+3*LOW), achilles(DEMAND+3*LOW),
	briseis(DEMAND+3*LOW), circe(DEMAND+3*LOW),
	diomedes(DEMAND+3*LOW), elpenor(DEMAND+3*LOW),
	hector(DEMAND+3*LOW), kalypso(DEMAND+3*LOW),
	lycaon(DEMAND+3*LOW), mentor(DEMAND+3*LOW),
	penelope(DEMAND+3*LOW), troilus(DEMAND+3*LOW)

# Everything else.
#
# Allegra has a small penalty to force mail through other routes,
# if equivalent, since they want to cut down the flow through their
# site.
#
# twg is dead, and the phone lines to ut-ngp and ut-sally
# are usually very noisy.

gatech	allegra(DEMAND+2*LOW), amd(DEMAND), amdcad(DEMAND),
	astrovax(DEMAND), bonnie(DEMAND),
	cbosgd(DEMAND), clyde(DEMAND), leopard(DEMAND),
	linus(DEMAND), masscomp(DEMAND), netword(DEMAND+LOW),
	nsc(DEMAND), rlgvax(DEMAND), twg(DEAD), uf-cgrl(DEMAND),
	unmvax(DEMAND), usenix(DEMAND), ut-ngp(DEMAND+2*LOW),
	ut-sally(DEMAND+2*LOW)
