[net.news.config] getting to ARPA through nsc

chuqui@nsc.UUCP (Chuq Von Rospach) (06/18/85)

This is just a quick note for people who are passing through nsc on their
way to ARPAland. I've been seeing a fair amount of traffic recently using
the path ..!nsc!seismo!foo@bar.ARPA. A much preferable (read cheaper) path
is to use ..!nsc!decwrl!foo@bar.ARPA because decwrl is up the road a ways
and seismo is somewhere off on the east coast -- a transcontinental phone
call for us. Once you get to arpa, it doesn't change the transmission times
significantly, so we would really appreciate it if people could try to help
us keep our phone calls as local as possible. Eventually (maybe in the next
month or so) I'm hoping to install a version of the gatech sendmail
configuration and start doing route optimization, but until then I'd
appreciate it if people could try to use the local gateway.

thanx!

The offices were very nice, and the clients were only raping the land, and
then, of course, there was the money...
