this site recently obtained 2.10.2 news. during its installation today,
i was surprised (for this side effect was not in the documentation) to find
that it included its own idea of what the active newsgroups were, and proceeded
to recreate a handful (~20) of now-defunct newsgroups with newgroup control
msgs.
our neighbors were immediately informed of this in an attempt to
cut the spurious msgs off at the pass, so to speak.
my apologies to anyone inconvenienced. this was my first install.
