Several of the NCAR machines normally reachable by email through HAO will
be down for 4-6 weeks while the power and cooling systems in the machine
room are completely redone to make way for the new CRAY XMP/48 machine
scheduled to be delivered in mid-August of this year. Any mail to the following
machines during the down time will be thrown on the floor:
scd-sa scd-sb io AAP2 scdaw
sa sb
Those users on scd-sa and scd-sb who frequently receive mail from the outside
have been given accounts on the "scdpyr" machine, so if you need to reach
someone you normally reach via the path hao!scd-sa!user or hao!scd-sb!user,
try hao!scdpyr!user instead.
This should *not* affect access to the hao machine itself nor any of the
following machines also normally reached via hao:
hao hao-hw haovax hao-is acdpyr scdsw1 scdsw2 scdpyr rdss CSD MRS
hw hv is acd scd
This should also not affect access to the NCAR CSNET site (since that is
really hao-hw anyway), except that certain aliases which used to refer to
users on scd-sa and scd-sb have been removed (again, most of those who receive
mail from the outside have been silently moved to scdpyr and had their aliases
changed accordingly).
Please see followup article about unrelated hardware changes going on in hao
which MIGHT delay mail and/or news through the hao machine.
