[net.news.config] Mail/News dalays at HAO possible

woods@hao.UUCP (Greg Woods) (05/06/86)

We are in the process of replacing our antiquated junk heap (oops, I mean
the 11/70 :-) with an Integrated Solutions (IS) 68020 box. This involves
porting the news software and uucp setup across to another machine, which
will probably result in periods when the hao machine cannot be accessed.
There is a slight possiblilty that some mail and news could be thrown
on the floor, because the only way to test the software on the new machine
will be in actual use, but we hope to prevent that and limit the problems
to periods of non-access. Some delays in transmission are inevitable, however.
There should be no changes needed in the phone numbers or login procedure
after the conversion.
Please see related article on different hardware changes going on in the
Scientific Computing Division (SCD) at NCAR that may result in some mail
getting lost.
