Ihnp4 hiccupped again, destroying the active file for a period of about 8 hours on Saturday the 22nd. Luckily one of the feed sites downstream of ihnp4 in the Chicago area informed yours truly that things were amiss, and I was able to rectify the problem. Unfortunately, the default action in news with a bogus active file is to toss the incoming news on the floor, which means that about 8 hours of backbone traffic was lost; sorry. Another note, np4 has been having problems over the last couple of weeks, and managed to mangle its spool pack on Weds. the 19th., as well as falling on its face several times in the intervening days. As usual, ihnp4 has been having some problems. It tossed its cookies a couple of times this week, culminating with the truncation of the Systems file from M to Z yesterday (Weds). We only detected the problem at noon on Thursday, so mail destined for sites whose names begin with M through Z may have had their mail dropped on the floor. Sorry, but due to funding confusion with ihnp4, it is becoming more diffcult to maintain service. We're trying, though..... -- Douglas H.
