The conversion of news and uucp to a new machine at HAO is done. None of our neighbors should need to modify their sys or L.sys files in any way, but they are requested to keep an eye on things and report any backlogs. It is slightly possible that some news and/or mail could get thrown on the floor while the kinks are being ironed out. We will, of course, try to minimize that. At the same time, the backbone configuration involving hao has changed. People may have noted the site "haouucp" in article paths. That site is no more. It was necessary to bring the new machine online in a test capacity before plugging it in to the USENET backbone. You will need to be careful that "haouucp" does not appear in any reply paths you try to use, or that mail will be thrown on the floor. The path "site!hao!haouucp!nbires" should be changed to "site!hao!nbires". nbires has also taken over our news feed from seismo (which was getting expensive enough to force us off the net) leaving us with "split" backbone duties. It's going to be fun incorporating this into the backbone map postings! Here is what the backbone looks like locally: seismo local_feeds | | | | nbires---------hao--------noao | | | | local_feeds hplabs All of these not labelled local_feeds are long distance calls except hao---nbires. hao will maintain a mail-only link with seismo. --Greg (hao!postmaster)
