[net.lang] net.lang.logo query results

jtb (01/12/83)

I received fewer than ten responses to my query about interest
in a LOGO newsgroup. Netnews ettiquite would indicate that this
is probably not enough people (or enough traffic) to justify its
own group. The time doesn't seem to be right, yet.
I suggest the following:
a) continue to discuss LOGO in net.lang. This way we'll see if
there's enough interest to really warrant a separate group.
AND
b) correspond by mail on specifics. For this purpose, here is my
   list of responses, condensed:

Count me in for net.lang.logo, and if there's not enough interest
to warrant a newsgroup, maybe we can keep a list of names.

I was a beta test site for Krell Logo last spring, when I was at the North
Carolina Educational Computing Service. I still use Logo occasionally,
but not as much as I used to. I really liked it though. I'm not sure
how much I would contribute to this newsgroup, but I'd sure like to
I'd sure like to encourage formation of a logo group. I vote yes.

John: I have been considering getting LOGO for my TRS COlor COmputer,
so my 8-year old son might have something other than BASIC to cut teeth on.
Your newsgroup request seems more oriented towards makers than users,
but if users get on and share their opinions, I'd like to see the group
formed. A day at the turtle races.... mike k

I've had experience with Logo, and was remotely involved with the development
of TI Logo (primarily beta-testing within the company). I'd like to
see net.lang.logo.

I have Terrapin logo at work but haven't had a chance to really start
using it yet. Am interested in Logo generally. Let's keep in touch by
mail if there's not enough interest for a newsgroup.

Yes, let's. I've been interested in Logo since reading Papert's book
"Mindstorms", about 18 months ago. Now that I've bought an IBM PC, I'm
looking for an implementation for that machine. If I do find one, a
newsgroup on which I can discuss the use of Logo would be helpful. If
I can't find an implementation on the market or in the public domain,
I'll have to buld one myself, which means a newsgroup on which I can
discuss implmentation with people who've done it would be invaluable.

I'm interested (although I'd most likely be a passive reader of the
news group). Two people with whom I've had some contact who are/were
LOGO developers are

	Leigh Klotz	(KLOTZ @ BBNG)
and
	Brian Harvey	(BH@SU-AI)

A third person who might be interested in the news group is

Patrick G. Sobalvarro	(PGS at MIT-OZ)

We have a Usenix LOGO running on our UNIX system. It needs work, but is
enough to introduce the language to others.

I think that a LOGO newsgroup would be timely, considering the growing ranks
of LOGO fans.
