Abstract:
Following the design of the Ada Language, the DOD undertook a second stage
of development of modern software technology in the area of programming support
environments. A third stage of development is just beginning in the area of
software dvelopment methodologies. Under contract to AJPO, the speaker and
Prof. A.I. Wasserman have produced an initial statement of requirements for
software development methodologies to support the use of Ada (known as
"Methodman"), undertaken a survey of existing methodologies, and planned an
empirical investigation to obtain more information on the efficacy of various
methods. This talk will describe this work to date and speculate on future
action in this area.

Peter Freeman is an Associate Professor of Information and Computer
Science at UC Irvine. He received his PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie
Mellon University. His research concentration is the area of software
engineering. He consults for many companies on applying software engineering
methods and concepts to business and engineering problems. He is consulting
editor for the McGraw Hill series on software engineering and technology. He
is also president of Software Environments, Inc.
