[net.lang] Response to ADA References for the Professional

dfs (05/10/83)

Response to Jim Heliotis' ADA reference material question:

In answer to your 4.19.83 request in these newsgroups for ADA reference
material directed at professionals, I recommend these articles:

1) "Ada: A Promising Beginning", Carlson, William E., June 1981, IEEE Computer

2) "The Ada Environment: A Perspective", Stenning, Vic, et al, June 1981,
  IEEE Computer

3) "The Ada Compiler Validation Capability", Goodenough, John B., June 1981,
  IEEE Computer

4) "The Ada Language System", Wolfe, Martin I.,June 1981, IEEE Computer

5) "What is Ada ?", Ronald F. Brender and Nassi, Issac R., June 1981, IEE
  IEEE Computer

6) Wegner, Peter, "Programming with ADA; An Introduction by Means of Graduated
  Examples", Prentice-Hall, Inc., 1980

References 1-5 are all in the June 1981 issue of IEEE Computer. There are many
more excellent references in each article. Reference 6 is an excellent beginning
ADA reference for programmers showing how ADA compares with FORTRAN and COBOL
programming techniques.

We have an ADA compiler running in a VMS environment on a VAX 780 but have done
nothing meaningful with it to-date.

Please contact me if you have any other ADA questions that I may be able
to assist with.
