We are investigating various tools for software development and maintainence management. We need the following kinds of capabilities: 1. source code librarian/archive management 2. object code librarian/archive management 3. c-type preprocessor to provide "if,def,..." capability 4. source code audit trail (source change history) The tools currently under reveiw include the DEC product called CMS and its cohort MMS; and the SCCS facility under Unix, in combination with the MAKE command. Our situation is compounded by the fact that we have n operating systems which are all networked together, and on which we will be debugging this software. These systems include: 1. VAX/VMS 2. UNIX on several machines 3. LTSS and CTSS on the CRAY computers 4. NOS 5. IBM VM/CMS and the IBM personal workstation system Please let us know of your experience with different products on different machines and environments. Please provide the following info for each tool you have used: 1. Operating system under which the tool package runs 2. The source language in which the tool is written 3. Cost estimates for procurement 4. Where the tool may be obtained 5. Tool limitations that you know of We want to perform a thorough investigation of these kinds of tools, and will report back to you the results of our research. Thanks much for your assistence!
