>From recent comments on various news groups it appears (like it or not)
that there are an increasing number of UNIX sites interested in
running Fortran software.
Could I suggest a news group specifically for SERIOUS Fortran users?
This group would encompass not only the reporting of bugs (& fixes)
for the present f77 compiler ( and its possible successors ?) but
also the availability of software tools for Fortran 77 and news of
UNIX f77 implementations of publically available Fortran software.

<<<void>>> I agree with Tim Hopkins' suggestion for a "net.lang.f77" newsgroup. I think the need is there, and will grow. By the way, if you've not noticed, Fortran-77 is a huge improvement on Fortran-IV. -- Larry West UC San Diego possible net addresses: -- ARPA: west@NPRDC -- UUCP: ucbvax!sdcsvax!sdcsla!west -- or ucbvax:sdcsvax:sdcsla:west

Unfortunately, we can't call it net.lang.for*, since this is too similar to the already existing net.lang.forth . I am in favor of keeping up with where FORTRAN is moving to, and calling it net.lang.f77 . I suspect most of the discussion there would be about f77 anyhow. However, I do *not* want to restrict discussion to f77. Anyone have any serious objection to calling it net.lang.f77? If not, we will create the group over the weekend, if Mark Horton doesn't beat us to it. Comments?
