[net.lang] grade F goto

>Bill McKeeman said he would fail anyone using a goto...

That will teach me! Some students take their instructors
seriously. Actually, my memory is not that I told them
the goto was evil, only that they could not use it for the
course, on the theory that "Jail is liberating", to
paraphrase Brooks. I wanted them to learn some discipline
first, the dirty real world could come later. Methinks it
worked from the comment that triggered this exchange!

Now, my final comment on this is Zilog's language, PLZ/SYS,
which HAS NO GOTO, and is 80% syntax compatible with
PLZ/ASM.

" ... anyone who uses a GOTO will flunk the class"

My apologies for implying that Bill is really that
dogmatic. He was teaching beginners who, if they had any
experience at all, had had experience with BASIC. He was
trying to reverse brain damage.

I appreciate the habits he taught me.
