Haven't seen one for FORTRAN 77, but for the ultimate in portability you
want to write in FORTRAN 66 anyway, right? :-) In which case AT&T Bell Labs
already wrote it, and it's called PFORT.
Seriously, anybody know if a version of PFORT has been written for FORTRAN 77?
Also, is PFORT public domain?

To my knowledge PFORT is not public domain but is free. In addition to
verifying whether a program conforms to a fairly minimal FORTRAN IV
(no END= on READs, for example), it also checks for type compatibility
in parameters and a few other things like that.
Not perfect, but quite useful. Incredibly, it is written in vanilla FORTRAN!
